Description
For Windows 98 users, this driver is a must install driver because it is required for proper recognition and operation of My Book Pro Edition hard drives, under Windows 98 SE.
However, this Western Digital Book driver is not needed and should not be installed if you are using Windows ME, 2000, or XP.
This USB external hard drive is \"plug-and-play\" in Windows ME, 2000, or XP, and no additional drivers are needed.
A little bit of information about the partition used in Western Digital My Book Pro Edition. The hard drive is preformatted as a single FAT32 partition for compatibility with all Windows operating systems.
Because FAT32 file system has a maximum file size of 4 GB, thus if you are a Windows XP and 2000 user, you may want to (actually you must if you want to store files larger than 4 GB) overcome this file size limit by reformatting the drive to the NTFS file system using the Disk Management utility. Windows 98SE and ME do not support NTFS.

I removed the WD Smartware software, but my computer need a driver for my MyBookElit 1TB drive, the back shows wdbaah0010hch-00 with serial number wcav5e894785. I believe I need a driver, because everytime I boot my computer it says ‘new hardware found’ and tries to load something from somewhere. Kind regards, …FRed in T.O.
